Overview
Durham University has a unique and lengthy history. As the third oldest university in England, the University often places in the top 10 UK university rankings. The University is also a member of the prestigious Russell Group, a group of 24 universities who produce more than two-thirds of the world-leading research produced in UK universities. Durham University is considered a traditional alternative to the leading universities of Oxford and Cambridge. As a collegiate university, Durham University is comprised of 16 individual colleges that offer distinct courses. Despite being located in one of the UK’s smallest cities, Durham University accommodates over 18,000 students, of whom, approximately 2,000 are international students from over 150 counties.
Services for International Students
An induction programme is hosted before the start of term to allow students to engage with fellow students and settle into the university lifestyle. A free coach transfer service is available to escort students from Newcastle airport to the campus. Numerous support services are available to students, including careers advice, financial support, and general advice.
Accommodation
A range of accommodation is available to students upon request. All first-year students are guaranteed on campus-accommodation for their first year of studies. Students must then search for private accommodation during their second year and have the option of returning to the student halls of residence in their third year.

Durham is a historic cathedral city nestled in the North-East of England close to the neighbouring city of Newcastle. The city is home to the 11th Century cathedral and castle, renowned landmarks that hold the accolade of being a world heritage site.
